This week we are at ESRF observing cells cultivated with nanoparticles, in the context of our "Safer-by-design" project. Exciting observations performed on record time thanks to the performances of ID21 microscope!

November 20, 2017: Award at Photography Contest

My picture submitted to the Photochimica 2017 contest, organized by EYCN, was awarded the 3rd prize!

It is titled "Thou shall burn" and was taken at the Advanced Light Source in Berkeley. Check the picture.

Joining the Research Council of Sorbonne Université

The results of the elections for the central councils and faculties of Sorbonne Université are out. I was a candidate on the list "Réunis", led by Pr. Jean Chambaz. I will be joining in 2018 the Research Council of Sorbonne Université... a new experience ahead! Read more in my blog (FR).

November 14-15, 2017: SAXS-WAXS at CEA ParisSaclay

To understand nucleation and growth of metal oxysulfide nanoparticles, we performed SAXS and WAXS measurements thanks to the expertise of David Carrière at LIONS, of nanoparticles freshly synthesized on the other side of the corridor (thanks to our host Jean-Claude Berthet!).

November 7, 2017: Nanoparticles at SMIS beamline

This week, we are at SMIS beamline at SOLEIL synchrotron, looking at nanoparticles using our small in situ ATR-IR cell... Thanks to Feri and the SMIS team!

October 23, 2017: Paper accepted

Our study on the reactivity of metal oxysulfide nanoparticles was just accepted in Inorganic Chemistry. We synthesized a new family of these nanoparticles and unravelled the relation between their cerium content and their reactivity. Check the paper.

October 18, 2017: Congrats to Camille!

Camille defended her PhD titled "Elaboration de borures et phosphures métalliques : synthèse de nanomatériaux en sels fondus et réactivité de surface".

Many thanks to the members of the jury for a constructive session of questions and big cheers to Camille for all the work she accomplished on this challenging topic!

October 13, 2017: All hands on deck

Today is the beginning of "La Fête de la Science", the national science fair. Most students and post-docs of the team are actively involved in presenting the wonders of chemistry to kids and the general public, on two fronts: Collège de France and UPMC.

Now opened : Two master internship positions

Project "NanoFLP" was selected for funding by ERC Starting Grant Program 2017. Project will officialy start in January 2018.

September 25, 2017: Metal oxysulfides @ECASIA

In Montpellier, I presented our recent results on metal oxysulfides at the conference ECASIA, organized by the French Vacuum Society.

This conference brings together surface scientists, tribologists, specialits of heterogenous catalysis, spectroscopics, etc. Got a lot of questions from the room!

September 13, 2017: Safer-by-design Nanoparticles

Minh participated to a dedicated conference about nanoparticles and biology: Metallic nanoparticles: health, environment, applications and safer-by-design. The conference was organized in Grenoble, and Minh presented his work to specialists of the field.

September 6, 2017: Project accepted!

Very glad to announce that my project "NanoFLP" was selected for funding by ERC Starting Grant Program.

Big thanks to all the colleagues, at UPMC, CNRS and beyond, who helped me shape this project!

September 3, 2017: Congrats to Nadège!

Nadège received the International Sol-Gel Society Travel Grant to partipate to the 2017 conference in Liège, Belgium.

She presented her work on functional silanes for building 2D and 3D nanomaterials.

July 24, 2017: Paper online

Our study about cobalt boride nanoparticles, led by David Portehault, is now online in Inorganic Chemistry. Exposing the nanoparticles to hydrogen resulted in unexpected phase segregation of the metal borides.

July 9-14, 2017: Metal carbides @IUPAC2017

I presented in Sao Paulo our paper about the synthesis of metal carbide nanoparticles. This was part of the "Nanotechnology" session of the IUPAC 2017 conference.

At the IUPAC 2017 conference, we officially created the International Younger Chemists' Network! Proud to be part of this new adventure, representing France.

July 4, 2017: Annual meeting of Labex MATISSE

The cluster of excellence MATISSE helds his scientific annual meeting today. Lots of exiciting talks, from Mars expedition to high-pressure chemistry and DFT modeling.

The poster session over lunch (and under a bright sun!) was also a great success of this edition. Clément presented his results on metal oxysulfide nanoparticles.

April 22, 2017: Marching for Science in Paris

The Science March was a huge success in Paris, as it gathered a much bigger attention than expected. We marched the 5th district in front of the most symbolic places (Museam, UPMC at Jussieu, Ministry of Research/Ecole Polytechnique, Collège de France, La Sorbonne...) and shared with the bewildered citizens our reasons for marching. The lab was there with a large delegation!

February 13, 2017: Paper accepted @ChemCatChem

This mechanistic study describes the birth of nickel phosphide at a nickel surface. Decomposition of tri-n-octylphosphine (TOP) happens at temperature as low as 150 °C and is accompanied by sp2 carbon deposition.

February 10, 2017: Visit of CNRS-Saint Gobain Research Unit

I was invited to give a talk at the Ceramic Synthesis and Functionalization Laboratory, hosted in Saint-Gobain research center in Cavaillon. I discovered the many research activities of the center... hoping to start a new collaboration soon!

February 1, 2017: In situ measurements at SMIS

We are studying nanoparticle's surfaces by infra-red spectroscopy on the SMIS beamline this week at SOLEIL. Thanks to Feri, Stephane, Christophe & all the SMIS team for helping us with this new setup!

January 17-20, 2017: Workshops at SOLEIL

Despite the cold, this week was a busy one for conferences. Minh and Madeleine assisted to the annual Users Meeting of synchrotron SOLEIL, where David was presenting research dealing with in situ measurements performed on nanoparticles. I also presented the most resent results of Clément's project (metal oxysuldide nanoparticles) at the satellite workshop LiXS (Liquid X-ray Spectroscopy)
